2024 Billy Button ‘The Tranquillo’ Prosecco
A simple and easy, uncomplicated wine, this non-sparkling Prosecco is light, low in alcohol (10%) and very unique to this area
Prosecco has become increasingly popular in Australia over the last 10 to 15 years. It has found its home in the neighbouring King Valley and it also flourishes in the Alpine Valleys. Most Australian Prosecco is bubbly and is produced using the Charmat (tank fermentation) method to produce economical, fruit forward wines. This Prosecco is still (aka a table wine)!
Historically Glera (Prosecco) is widely grown in Veneto, Northeast Italy and has been used in sparkling wine production for some time, which dominates the market here. Locally in Veneto however, it is not uncommon to find still Glera - Tranquillo. This is Billy Button’s second Tranquillo and this product is certainly unique to our region and more widely, Australia – it could quite possibly be one of the only Australian made Tranquillo on the market.
Production Notes
The fruit was machine harvested, crushed, and pressed to a temperature-controlled tank, where it was cold settled overnight. Once racked the juice was inoculated with selected yeast and fermented at 13 degrees. When ferment was complete the wine was racked and sulphured immediately to retain freshness.
Tasting Notes
Bright, with pale green hues. Delicate and perfumed with abundant aromas of orchard blossoms and pink florals. Luscious honeydew melon on the palate, teamed with a culmination of texture, gentle waxy characteristics and fresh acidity. At just 10% alcohol it is a light, balanced and easy drinking wine, the perfect aperitivo!

Reviews:
"What does prosecco taste like minus the bubble? Well, the acidity that brings it such zip becomes more of a feature – it's brisk – supported by green apple, lemon zest and quince surrounded in acacia and citrus blossom florals. As a still wine, it remains equally as refreshing, just don't over chill." Awarded 89 points, Halliday Wine Companion, Jeni Port - Published 03 February 2025
